A monumental bronze, Jacob Epstein (1880-1959), on the exterior of Coventry Cathedral, West Midlands, depicts the Archangel St Michael vanquishing the devil Lucifer. The modern Cathedral, built following the virtual destruction of the medieval original by Luftwaffe bombing in 1940, was consecrated in 1962. Cathedral Listed Grade 1. © Nicky Hughes.
