This calvary cross memorial - probably erected not long after the end of the First World War - honours the officers and men from both the army camp to the west of the village, and the RFC Catterick airfield to the south. This was opened in 1914 and operated for pilot training and home defence duties for the north-east of England. It was one of the oldest military airfields in the world. With the creation of the RAF on 1 April 1918 it became known as RAF Catterick.
