Return to A Brief Introduction to Architect Sir Edwin Lutyens

One of eight cenotaphs Lutyens designed.

The Regiment suffered terrible casualties in the war – 26,000 out of its 40,000 serving soldiers. This memorial, two-thirds the size of the Cenotaph in Whitehall, commemorates the 6,866 officers and men who died. It was unveiled on 30 July 1921.
