Return to A brief history of tanks

A modern memorial depicting a Mark V Heavy Tank commemorates the Royal Tank Regiment at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire. The memorial is located within the Regiment’s grove of ash trees, some of which have been propagated from trees growing on the original Cambrai battlefield. During recent conservation, a container for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Crosses was constructed from armoured vehicle track and placed at the foot of the memorial. Daffodils planted in the pattern of tank tracks bloom in the spring © John Hughes.
